Dear Doctors -

As a leader in the neurosurgical community, you understand the important role research has to the careers of young neurosurgeons and in the future development of the field of neurosurgery.

The Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) of the AANS would like to ask you, as a section chairman, to remind your colleagues about these research opportunities and ask them to encourage their residents and young faculty to apply for one of these prestigious grants. Applications are due by October 31st.

  • Residents in training who are preparing for academic careers are eligible to apply for a NREF Research Fellowship. The fellowship is available either as a two-year grant, totaling $70,000, or as a one-year grant of $40,000.

  • Young neurosurgeons who are in the early stages of their careers are eligible to apply for a Young Clinician Investigator Award to support young faculty who are pursuing careers as clinician -investigators. The award is for 1 year, for $40,000.
The Foundation encourages both basic science and patient-oriented, clinical research applications.

Applications are available at www.aans.org/research/fellowship/.

Apply today - the deadline for submission is October 31, 2007.
