Program’s goals and objectives

The AMC Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery Fellowship exists to prepare neurosurgeons to care for patients with complex functional disorders of the nervous system.  After successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to accurately diagnose and guide patients through an appropriate course of treatment for varied conditions such as the various movement disorders, central and peripheral neuropathic pain, epilepsy, and spasticity.  Graduates will have an understanding of the principles of stereotaxy and neuromodulation, and how these principles drive the surgical techniques used in therapeutic interventions.  Finally, graduates will develop an understanding of the historical context of functional neurosurgery, and the contemporary understanding of the neurophysiology underpinning the field, to prepare them to engage with the expanding range of future treatments functional neurosurgeons will be called to employ.
