New Members Wanted

The ASSFN is actively looking for new members. At a time when interest in stereotactic techniques has never been higher, we feel that many more neurosurgeons could benefit from active membership in the ASSFN. All ASSFN members are automatically members of the Joint Section for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, as long as the individual is also a member of the CNS or the AANS.

Thanks to the incorporation of frame-based and frameless image guidance into routine training and practice, many more of our colleagues perform some sort of stereotactic surgery (whether they realize it or not) than might have been the case only a decade ago. This would include stereotactic radiosurgery, performed in many centers using gamma knife or Linac technology. Most of these procedures are most likely done today by neurosurgeons without specialized training. As nonablative surgery for movement disorders and other conditions becomes more commonplace, functional neurosurgery is becoming less of an esoteric art. You can apply for ASSFN or any other Section by following these instructions:

  • Login to MyAANS
  • Click on My Section Applications
  • Click on the Start New Application button
  • Read the next page and click on the Next button
  • In the Section drop-down list, click on the Section that you wish to join
  • Continue on with the application
