Spinal Cord Stimulation

Home

Spinal Cord Stimulation, or SCS, refers to a range of technologies which involve placing an electrode near the spinal column to help control chronic pain. This electrode can take many shapes, and be programmed in a variety of settings, each tailored to your specific pain pathway. Powered by a small battery implanted in the buttuck, this entire system is under the skin and unobtrusive.

Not everyone is a candidate for SCS, however if you think you or a loved one might benefit from it, you can arrange a trial implant with your local pain physician. This trial is implanted for approximately a week, and it allows you and your doctor to see if spinal cord stimulation can be useful for your pain management. If so, a pain physician or a neurosurgeon can then implant the permanent implant.
