Program’s goals and objectives

The Mount Sinai Health System fellowship in functional neurosurgery is designed to train neurosurgery residents and/or recent graduates to establish independently a successful career in this subspecialty. The emphasis is on circuit-based surgical interventions for neuropsychiatric (DBS and TMS), movement disorders (DBS and MRgFUS) and epilepsy (SEEG, Ablative and DBS/RNS). Our goal is to ensure that each fellow has the necessary skills and resources to launch a successful career in academic neurosurgery. To ensure the attainment of this goal mentorship will be provided to the fellow in the following research-related activities: abstract preparation and submission, IRB approval process for human subjects, research data collection, and analysis, manuscript preparation, submission publication, etc. Additionally, fellows will have full access to research resources within the Department of Neurosurgery and will be provided with biostatistical support through the Icahn School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education Office as needed.
