Program’s goals and objectives

The overarching goal of the Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery Fellowship at the University of South Florida is to provide the trainee with comprehensive, organized, immersive, and well-supervised training in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery and epilepsy surgery, such that he or she might confidently and competently practice independently as an academic neurosurgeon and leader of a functional neurosurgery and epilepsy surgery program. The graduating fellow will demonstrate expert level understanding of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, and cognate sciences essential to the practice of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and will provide expert level patient care and procedural skills compassionately, appropriately, and effectively. Specific surgical competencies will include awake and asleep DBS and FUS for movement and other disorders, neuromodulation, radiofrequency and laser ablation, and open resections for epilepsy, and surgical interventions for patients with pain, spasticity, and peripheral nerve disorders depending on his or her specific interests.
