Program’s goals and objectives

This Fellowship provides a subspecialty training opportunity to fully trained neurosurgeons in the surgical treatment across a range of disorders amenable to stereotactic and functional neurosurgery approaches. The fellow will receive training in the pre-surgical workup of patients being considered for SFN procedures as well as the decision making for surgical planning, intraoperative decision making and interpretation of microelectrode recordings, and also post-operative follow-up including optimizing programming. At the end of the fellowship, the fellow will be prepared for independent practice in SFN procedures. The focus of the fellowship will be on movement disorder surgery, pain surgery, and neuromodulation. Other indications including peripheral nerve surgery and deep brain stimulation for medically refractory epilepsy are increasing in volume. Opportunities for both clinical and basic sciences projects in SFN are available through the Robarts Research Institute next to University Hospital.  Applicants should note that experience with Epilepsy surgery is a separate fellowship at our center.
