President’s Welcome: Shaping the Next Frontier at the ASSFN 2026 Biennial Meeting

Dear ASSFN Members and Colleagues,

As we look ahead to one of the most exciting moments in our society’s calendar, I am thrilled to introduce the Spring edition of NeuroPulse with a preview of the ASSFN 2026 Biennial Meeting in Cleveland, May 30-June 2. Our biennial meeting has always been a beacon of our community—bringing together the brightest minds in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery to share innovation, strengthen collaboration, and shape the future of our field. This year’s program promises to continue that tradition with outstanding scientific sessions, dynamic discussions, and invaluable opportunities to connect with colleagues, honored guests and keynote speakers.

Of which, this edition celebrates Dr. Aviva Abosch, our honored guest for the upcoming meeting, in this issue’s Member Spotlight. I encourage all members to begin planning for what will be an exceptional meeting experience. Highlights include special courses on Day 1 (May 30), engaging plenary sessions featuring the latest advances and emerging “hot topics” in our specialty, and dedicated time in the Exhibit Hall to connect with industry partners and explore new technologies that are transforming patient care.

Beyond the ASSFN 2026 meeting, this issue showcases the depth and momentum of our specialty. We are excited to spotlight opportunities to expand ASSFN membership through Associate Memberships to welcome and collaborate in allied fields. There is so much more incredible content in this newsletter. I encourage you to read and explore.

I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to this remarkable community. Serving as President for the last two years has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. I am so grateful for each and every one of you and for the enthusiastic participation of our volunteers. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together and even more excited for where ASSFN is headed next. The future of functional neurosurgery is bright, and it is being built by the dedication, excellence, and innovation of our members.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our society and to advancing the care of our patients.

With gratitude,

Julie G. Pilitsis, MD, PhD, MBA
